Nerve Supply Of Upper Eyelid
The levator palpebrae superioris is inserted to the superior tarsal plate of the upper eyelid. Ophthalmic artery supraorbital artery.
The third nerve also supplies the levator palpebra.
Nerve supply of upper eyelid. Muscle Attachment Nerve supply Levator palpebrae superioris main upper lid retractor Lesser wing of the sphenoid to the tarsal plate Superior division of the oculomotor nerve also supplies the SRM. Muscles which open the eyelid are supplied by the branch of trigeminal nerve C. Terminal branches of the ophthalmic division supply the upper eyelid as the lacrimal supraorbital and supratrochlear nerves lateral to medial and the medial aspect of both upper and lower lids as the infratrochlear nerve.
Sensory supply is by the fifth cranial nerve. The superior tarsal muscle is by the sympathetic nervous system. Frontal nervethis terminates as the supraorbital and supratrochlear nerves innervating the skin of the scalp over the area of frontalis and the frontal bone frontal sinuses and the upper eyelid.
The levator palpebrae superioris is supplied by the oculomotor nerve CN III. Six skeletal muscles surround and produce various eye movements. The levator palpebrae superioris receives motor innervation from the superior division of the oculomotor nerve.
Oculomotor nerve CN III Blood supply. Muscles which close the eyelid are supplied by the facial nerve B. The frontal branch also provides innervation to the upper lid pretarsal and preseptal orbicularis.
The zygomatic branch of the facial nerve traveled obliquely through the anterior cheek and supplied the orbicularis oculi of the lower eyelid and the medial portion of the upper eyelid. Its route was defined as a clinically useful line the medial orbicularis motor line. Superioris and indirectly the iris and ciliary muscle of the eyeball through the ciliary ganglion.
In humans the sensory nerve supply to the upper eyelids is from the infratrochlear supratrochlear supraorbital and the lacrimal nerves from the ophthalmic branch V1 of the trigeminal nerve CN V. Four of the extraocular muscles originated from a tendinous band surrounding the optic nerve. Ophthalmic maxillary divisions of the trigeminal nerve upper eyelid - supraorbital supratrochlear lacrimal nerves ophthalmic division lateral portion of upper eyelid zygomaticotemporal branch of the maxillary nerve extreme medial portion of both upper lower eyelid - infratrochlear nerve 50.
The supraorbital nerve exits the orbit through the supraorbital notch or supraorbital foramen. Ophthalmic nerve V1 upper eyelid. Superior tarsal plate skin of upper eyelid.
It subserves sensation to the upper eyelid and forehead skin except for a midline vertical strip which is supplied by the supratrochlear nerve. Elevates the upper eyelid. The zygomaticofacial nerve is a terminal branch of the zygomatic nerve which in turn is a branch of the maxillary nerve.
Maxillary nerve V2 lower eyelid. Blood is drained into the superior ophthalmic vein. Lacrimal gland upper eyelid lateral canthus Nasociliary n.
The skin of the lower eyelid is supplied by branches of the infratrochlear at the medial angle. Long ciliary nerve cornea iris ciliary body sclera sympathetics to eye. Frontalis and Mullers muscles become important when the levator is defective.
The main blood supply of the eye arises from the ophthalmic artery which gives off orbital and optical group branches. In humans the sensory nerve supply to the upper eyelids is from the infratrochlear supratrochlear supraorbital and the lacrimal nerves from the ophthalmic branch V1 of the trigeminal nerve CN V. Terminal branches of the maxillary division supply the lower eyelid as the zygomaticofacial and infraorbital nerves.
Infraorbital and zygomaticofacial branches. Branches of short ciliary nerves parasympathetics to eye join long ciliary nerve and enter eye Infratrochlear nerve medial canthal skin medial conjunctiva sympathetics to upper Mullers mm. Innervation of the eyeball and surrounding structures is provided by the optic oculomotor trochlear abducens and trigeminal cranial nerves.
Sensory innervation to the eyelids is supplied by branches of the trigeminal nerve. The zygomaticofacial nerve emerges on the face through the zygomaticofacial foramen where it pierces the orbicularis oculi muscle and supplies the skin on the prominence of the cheek. Nerve-Supply to the Eye All these muscles are supplied by the third nerve except the superior oblique which is supplied by the fourth and the external rectus which is supplied by the sixth.
All of the following are true of upper eyelid except. The levator palebrae superioris receives its blood supply from branches of the ophthalmic artery specifically muscular branches and the supraorbital artery. Lacrimal nerveprovides sensory innervation to the lacrimal gland conjunctiva and the upper eyelid.
Terminal branches of these nerves supply sensation to the upper eyelid and forehead. The major nerve supply enters the medial aspect through the buccal branch of the orbicularis along with an additional supply laterally from the frontal and zygomatic branches. Supraorbital supratrochlear infratrochlear and lacrimal branches.
